Washing Machine Problems We Can Help With
Bunneys Appliance Service repairs washing machines across Sydney, from common drainage and spinning problems to more complex mechanical and electronic faults. Modern washing machines rely on pumps, motors, valves, sensors, door locks and electronic controls working together, so a problem with one component can prevent the entire wash cycle from operating correctly.
Our experienced technicians can identify the cause of the problem and provide the right repair solution for a wide range of washing machine faults, including:
Washing Machine Not Draining
If water remains in the drum after a wash cycle, your washing machine may have a drainage problem.
Common causes include a blocked filter, obstructed drain hose, faulty drain pump or another restriction within the drainage system.
A washing machine that can’t drain correctly may also refuse to spin or complete its cycle.
Washing Machine Not Spinning
Clothes that are still soaking wet at the end of a cycle often indicate that the machine isn’t spinning properly.
The cause can vary depending on the machine and may involve the motor, drive system, door lock, electronic controls, sensors or drainage system.
Correct diagnosis is important because a drainage fault can sometimes appear to be a spin fault.
Washing Machine Leaking Water
Water appearing underneath or around a washing machine should be investigated promptly.
Leaks can originate from inlet hoses, drain hoses, door seals, pumps, valves or internal connections. Front-loading machines can also develop leaks around the door seal.
Continuing to use a leaking washing machine could cause damage to flooring, cabinetry or surrounding areas.
Washing Machine Won't Start
If the washing machine has power but won’t begin a cycle, there could be a problem with the door or lid lock, control panel, electronic control board, power supply or another internal component.
Our technicians can test the relevant parts to determine why the machine isn’t starting.
Washing Machine Not Filling With Water
A washing machine that doesn’t fill, fills very slowly or receives the wrong amount of water may have an inlet problem.
Possible causes include faulty inlet valves, blocked filters, water supply issues, pressure sensors, hoses or electronic controls.
Washing Machine Making Loud Noises
Some noise during washing and spinning is normal, but grinding, banging, scraping or unusually loud operation can indicate a mechanical problem.
Depending on the machine, possible causes include bearings, the drum assembly, motor, pump, suspension components or foreign objects trapped inside the appliance.
Washing Machine Shaking or Vibrating
Excessive movement during the spin cycle may be caused by an unbalanced load, incorrect levelling or a problem with suspension components.
If a washing machine that previously operated normally suddenly starts moving or vibrating excessively, it may need to be inspected.
Washing Machine Door Won't Open
Front-loading washing machines use an electronic or mechanical door-locking system to prevent the door from opening during operation.
If the door remains locked after the cycle has finished, the problem could involve the door lock, drainage system, control board or another safety mechanism.
Avoid forcing the door open, as this may cause additional damage.
Washing Machine Stops Mid-Cycle
A machine that starts normally but stops partway through a wash can be frustrating and difficult to diagnose without testing.
The cause could involve drainage, water supply, heating, motor operation, sensors, door locking or electronic controls.
Washing Machine Showing an Error Code
Modern washing machines monitor many aspects of the wash cycle and may display an error code when a fault is detected.
While the code can help narrow down the problem, it doesn’t necessarily mean the component referenced by the code needs replacing. Further diagnosis may be required to identify the underlying cause.

Our minimum Service callout fee is $209 including the first 30 minutes labour. Additional labour may be charged depending on how long it takes to diagnose the fault. Parts will be quoted and charged depending on what is required.

In most cases, bookings can be attended same day, or within 24 hours, depending on technician availability and location.
What washing machine brands do you repair?
We service many major brands including Miele, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, Westinghouse, Electrolux, Smeg, AEG, Samsung, LG and ASKO, along with numerous other manufacturers.
Why won't my washing machine drain?
Common causes include a blocked filter, obstructed drain hose, faulty drain pump or another restriction in the drainage system. The actual cause needs to be identified before the appropriate repair can be made.
Why won't my washing machine spin?
A washing machine may refuse to spin because it hasn’t drained correctly, the door isn’t locking, a sensor has detected a problem or there is a fault with the motor, drive system or electronic controls.
Why is my washing machine leaking?
Water can escape from hoses, seals, pumps, valves and internal connections. On front-loading machines, the door seal is another possible source. Because leaks can damage surrounding flooring and cabinetry, an actively leaking machine should be investigated promptly.
Why is my washing machine making a loud noise when spinning?
Loud banging, grinding or rumbling can be caused by an unbalanced load, foreign object, worn bearing, suspension problem, motor issue or another mechanical fault. If the noise occurs repeatedly with normal loads, the machine should be inspected.
Why won't my washing machine door open?
The machine may keep the door locked if water remains inside the drum or if the cycle hasn’t completed correctly. A faulty door-lock mechanism or electronic control problem can also prevent the door from opening. Avoid forcing it open.
Can you repair washing machine pumps?
Yes, many drainage problems involve the pump or components around the drainage system. The technician will first diagnose whether the pump itself is faulty or whether a blockage or another issue is preventing drainage.
Is it worth repairing an older washing machine?
It depends on the age and quality of the machine, its overall condition, the required repair and parts availability. A quality washing machine with one repairable fault can still be worth fixing, while an older machine with several major problems may be better replaced.
