Dryer Problems We Can Help With
Bunneys Appliance Service repairs dryers across Sydney, from common heating and drum problems to more complex electrical and electronic faults. Dryers rely on heating components, motors, belts, thermostats, sensors, fans and electronic controls working together, so a fault in one component can significantly affect the appliance’s performance.
Our experienced technicians can identify the cause of the problem and provide the right repair solution for a wide range of dryer faults, including:
Dryer Not Heating
If the drum turns but your clothes remain cold and wet, there may be a problem with the dryer’s heating system.
Depending on the type of dryer, possible causes include a faulty heating element, thermostat, thermal fuse, temperature sensor or electronic control component.
Our technicians can test the relevant components to determine why the dryer isn’t producing heat.
Dryer Not Drying Clothes Properly
A dryer may still produce some heat but take considerably longer than normal to dry a load.
Poor drying performance can be caused by restricted airflow, heating problems, faulty temperature or moisture sensors, fan issues or other internal faults.
Correct diagnosis can help determine whether the problem is with the dryer itself or something affecting normal airflow and operation.
Dryer Drum Not Turning
If the dryer starts but the drum doesn’t rotate, there may be a mechanical or electrical problem.
Possible causes include a worn or broken drive belt, motor fault, pulley problem or another component within the drum drive system.
Dryer Won't Start
A dryer that doesn’t respond when you press Start can have several possible causes.
The problem may involve the door switch, power supply, control panel, electronic control board, motor, thermal protection or another electrical component.
Professional testing helps identify the actual cause before parts are replaced.
Dryer Stops Mid-Cycle
A dryer that starts normally but repeatedly stops before completing its cycle may be experiencing an overheating, sensor, motor or electronic control problem.
Some dryers are designed to shut down when excessive temperatures are detected, making it important to determine why the machine is stopping rather than repeatedly restarting it.
Dryer Overheating
A dryer that becomes excessively hot should be investigated.
Restricted airflow, thermostat problems, temperature sensors, heating components or other internal faults may cause abnormal temperatures.
If your dryer smells unusually hot or appears to be overheating, stop using it until the cause has been identified.
Dryer Making Unusual Noises
Some operating noise is normal, but grinding, squealing, scraping, rattling or banging can indicate a problem.
Depending on the model, unusual noises may come from the motor, drum rollers, bearings, belt, fan or another moving component.
Dryer Door Won't Close or Latch
Most dryers won’t operate unless the door is correctly closed.
A damaged latch, door switch, hinge or alignment issue can prevent the machine from starting even when everything else is functioning normally.
Dryer Controls or Display Not Working
Modern dryers rely increasingly on electronic displays, control boards and touch controls.
A blank display, unresponsive buttons or incorrect operation can indicate a control-panel, power-supply or electronic fault.
Dryer Showing an Error Code
Many modern dryers display an error code when their internal diagnostic system detects a problem.
Error codes can help narrow down the fault, but further testing is often required to determine the underlying cause and appropriate repair.

We service many major brands including Miele, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, Westinghouse, Electrolux, Smeg, AEG, Samsung, LG and ASKO, along with numerous other manufacturers.
Why is my dryer running but not heating?
A dryer that turns but produces no heat may have a problem with its heating element, thermostat, thermal protection, temperature sensor or electronic controls. The relevant components need to be tested to determine the actual cause.
Why is my dryer taking so long to dry clothes?
Long drying times can result from heating problems, restricted airflow, overloaded cycles, sensor faults or other internal issues. If normal loads are suddenly taking considerably longer than before, the dryer may require inspection.
Why isn't my dryer drum turning?
A non-turning drum may be caused by a broken or worn belt, motor fault, pulley issue or another part of the drive system. Diagnosis is required to determine which component has failed.
Why does my dryer keep stopping?
Some dryers stop when they detect excessive temperatures or another operating problem. The cause may involve airflow, thermostats, sensors, the motor or electronic controls.
Why is my dryer making a squealing or grinding noise?
Unusual noises can originate from bearings, drum rollers, belts, motors, fans or other moving parts. A persistent new noise is worth investigating before the underlying component deteriorates further.
Is an overheating dryer dangerous?
A dryer that is becoming abnormally hot, producing a burning smell or behaving unusually should not continue to be used until the cause has been investigated. Switch it off and arrange an inspection.
Is it worth repairing an older dryer?
It depends on the dryer’s age, original quality, condition, repair required and parts availability. A quality dryer with one repairable fault may still be worth fixing, whereas an older appliance requiring several expensive repairs may be better replaced.
