Fridge Problems We Can Help With
Bunneys Appliance Service repairs fridges across Sydney, from common cooling and temperature problems to more complex electrical and electronic faults. Modern refrigerators rely on compressors, fans, thermostats, sensors, defrost components, seals and electronic controls working together to maintain the correct temperature.
Our experienced technicians can identify the cause of the problem and provide the right repair solution for a wide range of dryer faults, including:
Fridge Not Cooling
A fridge that is running but isn’t keeping food cold enough can have several possible causes.
The problem may involve the thermostat, temperature sensor, fan, compressor system, electronic controls or another component affecting refrigeration or airflow.
Because several faults can produce similar symptoms, proper diagnosis is important before deciding which parts require attention.
Fridge Too Cold or Freezing Food
If food in the refrigerator compartment is freezing, the appliance may be operating below its intended temperature.
Possible causes include a faulty thermostat, temperature sensor, damper, control system or airflow problem.
Incorrect temperature settings can also cause overcooling, so these should be checked before arranging a repair.
Fridge Leaking Water
Water underneath or inside a refrigerator can originate from several areas.
A blocked defrost drain, water supply connection, ice-maker system, drain pan or another internal component may be responsible.
Leaks should be investigated before they cause damage to flooring or cabinetry surrounding the fridge.
Fridge Making Unusual Noises
Refrigerators naturally make noises as compressors and fans cycle on and off, but new or unusually loud sounds may indicate a problem.
Buzzing, rattling, grinding or knocking can potentially originate from a fan, compressor, ice maker or another moving component.
A technician can determine whether the sound is normal operation or evidence of a developing fault.
Fridge Running Constantly
A refrigerator will cycle throughout the day, but it shouldn’t necessarily run continuously.
If the fridge rarely switches off, it may be struggling to maintain the required temperature. Possible causes include temperature-control problems, poor airflow, damaged door seals, excessive ice build-up or faults within the cooling system.
Continuous operation can also increase electricity consumption.
Fridge Not Turning On
If your refrigerator appears completely dead, the problem may involve the power supply, internal wiring, electronic controls or another electrical component.
Our technicians can inspect the appliance to determine why it isn’t operating.
Excessive Ice or Frost Build-Up
Heavy frost or ice inside a frost-free fridge can indicate that the automatic defrost system isn’t operating correctly.
Possible causes include a defrost heater, sensor, thermostat, drain or electronic control problem.
Ice build-up can eventually restrict airflow and prevent the refrigerator from cooling evenly.
Fridge Door Not Sealing Properly
A damaged, worn or incorrectly sealing door gasket allows cold air to escape.
This can cause temperature fluctuations and force the refrigerator to work harder to maintain the selected temperature.
Door alignment, hinges and the condition of the seal may all need to be checked.
Fridge Light or Display Not Working
Modern refrigerators can include digital displays, temperature controls and sophisticated electronic interfaces.
Problems with displays or controls may involve the panel itself, wiring, power supply or electronic control components.
Fridge Showing an Error Code
Many modern refrigerators display error codes when the appliance detects an abnormal operating condition.
The error code can provide useful diagnostic information, but further testing is often required to determine the actual component responsible for the problem.

Why is my fridge running but not getting cold?
There are several possibilities, including airflow problems, fan faults, temperature sensors, thermostats, defrost-system problems, electronic controls or faults within the refrigeration system. Testing is required to determine the actual cause.
Why is my fridge freezing my food?
If food in the refrigerator compartment is freezing, check that the temperature hasn’t accidentally been set too low. If the setting is correct, a thermostat, sensor, damper or electronic control problem may be affecting temperature regulation.
Why is there water underneath my fridge?
Water may come from a blocked defrost drain, water connection, ice-maker system, drain pan or another internal source. If the fridge is actively leaking, it should be inspected to identify where the water is coming from.
Why is ice building up inside my frost-free fridge?
Excessive ice can indicate a problem with the automatic defrost system. A heater, sensor, thermostat, drain or electronic control fault may prevent the fridge from removing frost normally.
Why does my fridge run all the time?
A fridge may run for extended periods during hot weather or after adding a large amount of food. However, persistent continuous operation can indicate a temperature-control problem, poor airflow, damaged door seals or another cooling fault.
Why is my fridge making a loud noise?
Some humming, clicking and fan noise is part of normal refrigerator operation. A new grinding, rattling, buzzing or unusually loud noise, however, may indicate a problem with a fan, compressor or another component.
Is it worth repairing an older fridge?
It depends on the fridge’s age, original quality, condition, the fault involved, parts availability and repair cost. A quality refrigerator with one repairable component fault may still be worth fixing, whereas an older fridge requiring major work may be better replaced.
